Galloway's No Maverick

The MSM constantly refers to "moderate" Republicans in the Senate as "mavericks", namely McCain, Chafee, Hagel, and most recently Voinovich.  (Of course, when Zell Miller consistently broke ranks with the Democratic Party, the "maverick" label seemed to be used less, in favor of such phrases as "wild-eyed" and "outspoken").  They use this word to lionize their dissent against the "government-controlling right-wing extremist" Republicans.

Well, last night I was watching the NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams and I almost did a spit-take when he refered to British MP George Galloway as a "maverick".  I Googled the phrase "maverick Galloway" on GoogleNews and found it was a common media description.

But, I don't think it should apply to the Right Dishonorable Member.  Merriam-Webster defines a "maverick" as:

1 : an unbranded range animal;

2 : an independent individual who does not go along with a group or party

The reason these definitions don't apply to Mr. Galloway is because 1) he's been branded by most as a traitor and 2) he's goes along with the terrorists.  How's that for party affiliation?

The man is a disgrace and it's shameful that he still holds an elected office.
