Giving Money

The RNC called last night. They wanted my money. Ken Mehlman just sent me an email wanting a donation in honor of the President's birthday.

Let's just say I'm not a fan of the overall communications strategy being implemented by the GOP -- and in particular the White House. Most of my Republican friends are, likewise, a bit frustrated by a failure to move the ball on the communications front.

What to do about it? That's easy.

Contribute to RedState. I'm putting $25.00 in the pot right now in lieu of giving to the RNC.

as soon as the GOP starts pushing fiscal conservatism again.

social conservatism is nice and good (although i am probably in the minority here when i say i don't think the government should have gotten involved in the T.schiavo case) but in my heart i am a fiscal conservative moreso than a social conservative.

bring back talk about a balanced budget amendment to the constitution (and include in it that congress can't raise taxes to balance it for that year - tax hikes don't start till the following year or something)

political pork spending is the thing i hate most, and it is rampant.. more efforts to cut the pork out should be made.

The Schiavo mishandling disturbed others here.  And many of us are fiscal conservatives first and are upset that the administration is threatening to tar the Republican name wrt small government and fiscal responsibility.

The $849 Billion Medicare prescription drug benefit was a bitter pill to swallow even though it got us Health Savings Accounts.  Not a fan of agricultural subsidies or increasing federal involvement in State issues like education and crime either.

As far as the RNC is concerned, my checkbook is closed for the forseeable future but I will gladly donate my time, energy, and resources to support solid conservative candidates.

I have to say, the post is a bit vague.  What exactly is your problem with the communication strategy?

Are you unhappy because they asked for money?  Are they focused on the wrong issues?  Being too aggressive?  Not aggressive enough?  Or is it all of the above?  They're all over the board and lacking any coherent message?

A lot of people have their issues with the way things are, but why not be constructive and tell them what you think they're doing wrong.

I couldn't agree more and I am a conservative evangelical. Social conservatism and fiscal conservatism are not mutually exclusive. Almost all of my Christian friends are very frustrated with the Bush administration because of the lack of support of fiscal conservatism/capitalism.

I have to say that I don't think compassionate conservatism has served conservatives social or fiscal very well.  Compassionate conservatism seems to be more about trying to make the other side happy than promoting conservatism.

Judges are the one issue I hope Bush pulls through on-just give more judges in the Thomas/Scalia camp and keep away anyone who even remotely agrees with Ginsberg.

They can perhaps use our support?  What do you all think of them?

The sooner we can return to limited, smaller government the better!
