FEC Hearing Today

By Adam C2 Posted in Comments (14) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »

Mr. Krempasky is doing his best Mr. Smith Goes to Washington impression today as he testifies before the FEC. For those who haven't been following closely, the FEC is required to regulate internet political activity and is now determining how it will do so. The FEC first draft (unreleased but acquired by RedState) was heavy on the regulation and short on the freedom.

Since the 2 day hearings start today, news is spreading. The DC Examiner has an op-ed on page 19 (annoying format) titled "Hands Off My Internet." Business week picks up the story. Kos will be there with Mike. If you want more background, head over to fec.Redstate.org and keep scrolling.

Please use the comments to add articles and op-eds that are floating around the net. And if anyone can watch CSPAN and liveblog parts of the proceeding it would be much appreciated. For the Krempasky fan club, make sure to turn on CSPAN at 9:45 AM to achieve groupie status. [Update:] The hearing is not being carried live - it will be rebroadcast.

C-SPAN is just showing the action on the House floor. Will C-SPAN be carrying these hearings?

Instapundit and others say that Redstate is live-blogging the hearings.  I can't find that here.

Who is live-blogging the hearings?  Can anyone post an URL?

I can't liveblog the hearings but when C-SPAN does the rebroadcast I will post the full video online over at DEMbloggers.com

Also, one more question. Any idea when C-SPAN will rebroadcast the hearing?

Can't find any plans on their online schedules yet.

So the FEC wired up the room with 802.11, and yet no one is broadcasting a live audio feed or even live-blogging?

Jerome from Mydd is going to live-blog the hearing. I'm going to give C-SPAN a call and ask them when they will air the hearing.

Only liveblogging I can find is MyDD.com, FYI.

FYI, Krempasky's prepared remarks are in my diary.

He does a good job at subtly pushing at all of McCain-Feingold/BCRA without saying outright it should be scrapped.  And he points out the nonsense of granting Slate a media exemption but not Wizbang.

I gave C-SPAN a call and the lady was a complete ass. Anyways she said that they probably won't air the hearings but I don't trust her word. I will keep an eye on the schedule and if they do the air the hearings I will post the full video of the testimonies over at my blog.

CSPAN this morning with the blogger from Ankle Biting Pundits. Will probably be repeated.

Here:

Michael Krempasky, founder of RedState.org, said the FEC should treat bloggers like traditional media and exempt them from campaign finance regulation.

"What goal would be served by protecting Rush Limbaugh's multimillion-dollar talk radio program, but not a self-published blogger with a fraction of the audience?" Krempasky asked during his appearance before the commission.

Others quotes from Kos and Atrios in the article.
