FEC Roundup: It's all about the freedom

“Brad Smith refused to grow in office and we are all a little better off for it.”
First up is John Sample's "Mr. Smith Leaves Washington" article for the American Spectator. My quibble: Sample cites unnamed Republicans referring to Smith as not very sociable. Pfft. If sociable in Washington means news-anchor plasticity and a politican's ease - then we can thank God he ain't that. But if you find someone whose last name isn't McCain that will go on record saying Smith doesn't have a sense of humor - I'll eat my hat.
In fact, I'll prove it. for RedStaters in the DC area - near the end of September, we're going to participate in hosting a reception for Smith. Email me for details if you're interested.
Next up - our my favorite Kossack Adam Bonin brings us news of a group of for-profit, blatantly political progressive blogs directly asking the FEC (in the form of a request for an advisory opinion) for the press exemption. (and Allison adds a little light to that process)
And finally, I was a little tough on Rick Hasen yesterday. What was meant as a poke came out as a slap. Sloppy, and I regret it.

Jeez, that cost money, don't do that!
sangria. by the gallon.

I think it's worth noting, of course, that you believe that giving "a group of for-profit, blatantly political progressive blogs . . . the press exemption" is a good thing. :)
