While We're Picking a New Majority Leader<br>It's Time to Toss Deborah Pryce

While we are all focused on Sam Alito and the Boehner v. Blunt race, I think we should also turn our eyes to another critical position for conservatives that, right now, is not in friendly hands -- that of Conference Chairmanwoman. The position is currently held by the rather hapless Deborah Pryce. If conservatives want to send a message, in addition to finding a better alternative to Boehner and Blunt (Shadegg), they should replace Pryce as well.
It appears there is movement on that front. And the faster the momentum for change, the better off House Republicans and conservatives in particular will be. Among the names mentioned as a potential challenger is Congressman Jack Kingston. Kingston has done much to get the House Republicans on message -- on a conservative message -- and to communicate that message articulately and positively. He has a good vision for what the GOP should be doing and he is able to see both the forest and the trees without losing perspective on the overall goal of reducing government, reforming the tax code, cutting red tape, supporting free enterprise, and making the United States a great place to raise a family.
Kingston understands what is at stake for the House GOP and he understands both the conservative agenda and the need to find some balance with moderate Republicans in order to move a conservative agenda forward. Pryce clearly either does not or has no interest in doing so.
Deborah Pryce has done little with her position. While it was nice for the GOP to have played to quotas, it would have been better for everyone if they had played to competence. While we're changing leaders, let's change chairmenperson too.

Hopefully Boehner, who has voted against earmarks, and also aaginst fiascos like UNESCO, wins the race.
If Boehner wins, then Pryce can be eased out (give her a nice chairmanship on a committee where she's pretty good on an issue) for the sake of regional balance.
will be the next ML. I think it's almost a done deal.
That is, conservatives will lose the ability of govern in the House if, in asserting vigorous, principled leadership, they demonize or purge the more moderate members of the caucus, e.g., Rep. Pryce.
Also, taking after yet another Ohio Republican is not a good move tactically. The state party is in disarray, Taft is the most unpopular governor in the country, and Ney is in deep trouble. We need Representative Pryce.
Conservatives want to dump Boehner and Pryce? Isn't there a place in leadership for squishy Ohioans? We are after all a pretty important state you know!
[The above was a joke]
This may be off topic, but why do you mention Shadegg by Blunt's name?
One of the major problems in the Congress, with both parties, is the fact that most of the leadership got there because of The Peter Principle.
Since there are solid reasons to restructure the leadership NOW, it would be much less disruptive in the long run to make as many changes now as are prudent. Just because someone is a "good" Representative and reflects the voters in their district in a way that allows them to be continually reelected does not mean they are up to a "leadership" position which requires a completely different skill set. Example, Ted Williams could not teach other players to hit a baseball.
I know nothing of Ms. Pryce and I have no axe to grind one way or the other. I do believe the R reps should take this opportunity to make a radical move away from the status quo represented by the two front runners for majority leader. I would prefer someone like Mike Pence or John Shadegg who would make a powerful statement that there is a "new sheriff in town". That said, the new leader should have the ability to choose those people with whom they will be able to work most effectively in order to get the job done.
but I think he's saying Shadegg would be "a better alternative to Boehner and Blunt".
I agree with him.
to either of the current alternatives.
First of all, he's more conservative than they. Second, and perhaps more important, he represents real change from the K-Street crowd. Shadegg is squeaky clean, is better on principle on issues relating to spending and taxes and on every "conservative hot-button" issue I can think of.
is Shadegg squeaky clean though?
Kingston for Conference sounds great
Seriously I don't think I've heard of Congresswoman Pryce before, what's the complaint against her?

I live in AZ, though not in Shadegg's district. He is a very high profile guy here and if he had wrinkles the AZ Repugnant (Phoenix paper) would have run them on the front page.
He is very well respected by the conservatives in the state and I've never heard anyone question his integrity.
I agree that Kingston would be a great choice for Conference Chair. Everytime he posts here at Red State I find myself nodding my head in agreement. He is a solid conservative who would frame our message well.
I'm eager for Kingston to post again here at Red State outlining why he's supporting Roy Blunt and if there is a possibility of him running for Conference Chair and joining the leadership hierarchy with Hastert, Blunt and whomever wins the Whip race.
Thanks for the replies, I was just wondering because, from what i know of Shadegg, I really like.
Especially his Health Care Choice Act and Enumerated Powers Act (this is a liberty lovers dream!).
You are less than a year away from getting Ken Blackwell as your governor. That will end your squishy status, at least for a while.
Pretty big news coming out of today's Free Congress lunch. Paul Wyrick resisted calls to keep his powder dry and came out for Roy Blunt. Called him the true conservative.
Other Free Congress folks were calling Boehner a RINO and saying that he was saying one thing to the squishes in his calls and a completely different thing as he was trying to rally conservatives.
OH guys are evidentally scared stiff of Shadegg getting into the mix and eclipsing Boehner...
ok, some serious drama here...this thing is like a freaking soap opera
I know she's posted on hear before, but haven't seen anything in a while. Then was flipping thru tv yesterday saw Blackburn talking with Larry Kudlow on his show. He was slamming Blunt pretty hard. He started telling her she should run for majority leader. She is definitely conservative. They ought to push her to run for the Republican conference job. Can't argue that we need Pryce for the woman angle if you got Blackburn in there. Plus she's good on tv and lord knows we need capable spokespeople right now.
Kingston slipped my mind when speaking of the current leadership. In addition to Tom Reynnolds, Jack Kingston of GA is another up and coming Member that should be further elevated.
What a good balancing act both he and Reynnolds would be!

I'm not a big fan of Pryce. But right now we need to focus on cleaning up the K street corruption first. This isn't an excuse to push out moderates. This is a necessary goal on its own. Let's keep our eye on the ball.
