At least nine Senate Democrats will vote to end Kerry's filibuster against judge Alito's confirmation.

In addition to the three Democrats who say they will vote for Judge Alito's confirmation - Byrd, Johnson and Ben Nelson, Bloomberg reports  Democrats Landrieu, Pryor, Conrad, Feinstein and Salazar have said they oppose using a filibuster to block a Senate vote.

Senator Akaka has also said he won't support a filibuster against Alito's confirmation.

California Yankee continues to track Senators' positions on Alito's confirmation here.

Who are the 7 "Dealers" on the D side.

I think it's Nelson, Pryor, Landrieu, Byrd, Inouye, Conrad, and Johnson.  Which means that 6 of the 7 so far have announced that they are abidding by their committment.  And I doubt Inouye will vote against cloture.

who are supporting a straight vote and are against the filibuster are Senators who are instates where they may be challenged by conservatives.

This is very notable.

The redstate dems get to play it safe while the rest of the senators (and presidential hopefuls) can appease the rabid left by trying to filibuster, but don't have to risk the backlash from normal Americans that would occur if they actually did filibuster a SCOTUS nominee.

Now the kosites can't be angry at them for not trying.

From their perspecitive, maybe it is the best way to play a losing hand.

of the gang.  Conrad and Johnson are not.

The seventh member is none other than Colorado's finest moderate, Ken "I can not rule out a filibuster agains Alito" Salazar.
