It's apparently gotten pretty loud out. See also here, here, here, here and here.
Open thread, and be careful out there - but don't be a da*ned fool about it.

If this is indeed the case, why no statement of any kind from Chertoff? Why no Orange? Why no named sources? (I'm not necessarily questioning the validity of the reports, but I'd like a little more meat, please.)
To the tune of Insects
Cyberinsects in Iran
Cyberinsects with a plan
Killer insects with a pin
Assassin insects sneaking in
Insects just might just might kill the kook
kook kook
They might kill the kook
Spying insects everywhere
Spying insects buzzing buzzing buzzing through the air
Just like little U-2s in the sky
Insects watching with one eye
Spying insects just might just might find the nukes
nukes nukes
They might find the nukes
We're working on it folks.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
After the ports hoo-hah, it'd be nice if we could get a silverlining from the intra-party fighting, by uniting on better border security at least.
So thank you for pointing that out to us, and for working on it.
DNA origami creates map of the Americas
A map of the Americas measuring just a few hundred nanometres across has been created out of meticulously folded strands of DNA, using a new technique for manipulating molecules dubbed "DNA origami".
The nanoscale map, which sketches out both North and South America at a staggering 200-trillionths of their actual size, aims to demonstrate the precision and complexity with which DNA can be manipulated using the approach.
According to the map's creator, Paul Rothemund at Caltech in Pasadena, US, DNA origami could prove hugely important for building future nano-devices including molecular machines and quantum computer components. The technique exploits the fact that complementary base pairs of DNA will automatically stick together and involves folding a single strand of DNA in many different ways.
Majority Leader Bill Frist, frustrated by the sluggish debate over immigration reform at the committee level, plans to introduce a bill that deals solely with border security as early as today. http://www.washtimes.com/national/20060316-122825-4511r.htm
giving them something to chat about!
US and Iraqi Forces Go on Offense
Nice to see we are not hunkering down in Iraq, and are instead going after them.
Andrew Sullivan has a link up to a site called www.ummah.net-- which has apparently hosted Islamic terrorists putting out death threats. He encouraged readers to check it out, as there were actually people contesting the Islamists. I followed the link.
Anyway, there is an old post in the forum by someone named "al-Nassar". (LINK)* The link itself is an uninteresting thread about OBL's original call for "truce" in January. But "al-Nassar"'s tagline reads:
" Important Notice
"Thanks for all of your Du'a, Guys and Girls

"Praise belongs to Allah who guided us to this and were it not that Allah has
Barakallahu Feekum, Al-Nasser will start The Excellent Job Next Saturday (March 18th) Insh'allah

guided us, we would not have been guided.
*(NOTE: The tagline also contained a link, which I removed. The link was to a video, which contained graphic depictions of US soldiers being shot by snipers.)
I found this no more than 15 minutes ago, and was nervous enough to report it to DHS using their online form (they're probably already monitoring that site, but still...). When I clicked over to RedState and saw this post, my stomach dropped to my shoes. It could be a coincidence, I guess, but it's nonetheless a pretty disturbing one.
WCHA playoffs resume again tonight. The suprise winners last week, UMD Bulldogs, vs. St Cloud State. If you aren't in MN, you're missing out.
Reportedly the arena has been evacuated. No word that I've seen whether or not terrorism is suspected.
...if there was NO chatter? I really have no idea, but read somewhere that it would be more concerning if they all of a sudden got really quiet.
I figure most of the threats are hot air, but knowing which one is the real thing must be nearly impossible. I hope folks smarter than me are able to figure it out.
:)
I hear and read what you're sellin', and I ain't buyin'.
After the world came to a screeching halt over DPW and how our borders were a number 1 priority...and the promised 45 day review? Zip.
After our political heroes up there promised port security was more important than alliances with friendly Arab countries? Zero.
After we were promised that all would be done to review and analyze security once the President's DPW so-called debacle was behind us? Zilch.
What will Frist and company do about security? What will improve in our national security by spending all this energy over Mexico's border NOW (not uncoincidentally in the looming '06 rhetoric hype)? Nada.
Final tally...zip, zero, zilch, nada.
Unless Ports, AND Immigration, AND Fences, AND Border control are all together, you guys are sellin' a whole lot more of the same. Sorry.
or that's what you used to call yourself.
Don't you think it's pretty low rent to skulk back in to a place you've been banned from? Obviously not. You came back.
Now go away again.
dont forget, you have to also attack the demand side, the guys hireing all the illegals.
This site is kind of addictive.
From hollywoodinterrupted.com:
Sources from inside Paramount and South Park Studios report that parent company Viacom pulled last night's scheduled repeat of the high-rated "Trapped in the Closet" episode after the humorless Scientologist movie star Tom Cruise threatened to cancel all publicity for Mission Impossible:3 if Comedy Central aired the episode that satirizes Scientology and mocks his sexuality again. Not only is this the first time that the South Park creators have been officially censored in their ten hit seasons with Comedy Central, Viacom officials also reportedly ordered Matt Stone and Trey Parker not to discuss the reason why their episode was cancelled.
If the Congress can't even pass a simple border security measure, how can it pass anything more controversial like better interior enforcement?
Let's get this bill passed by the Senate and signed by the President before we fight for more.
...need good anti-psychotic drugs most, that refuse to take them. :-)
...to be made that she resonates with Floridians and now with enough money to stay on TV in Florida, the backing of the governor, and grassroots support????
even with the lackluster support from Washington she's right when she says "Washington can't vote for me only the good people of Florida can"
wonder where they are putting their priorities? Revenues for the advertisment of one movie or a very lucrative long term contract for one of their highest rated shows. It just proves that "suits" are stupid no matter which company.
Quick on her feet, smart as a whip and great at her job.
I'm very proud of her service to this country!
If a person could be drafted into the presidency, she would be the one... hands down!
...on Foreign Policy. But then again, Peggy Noonan's column reminded me that I'm mad as hell at Bush - and it has nothing to do with his Foreign Policy. It's not enough to have someone as visionary as Bush and Condi at the helm just for their foreign policy - we need someone who is just as visionary when it comes to slashing the federal budget, reforming the tax code, reforming entitlements, and getting serious about border security.
I love Condi to death (my gorgeous calico is named after her from her days as National Security advisor.) But after reading Peggy Noonan's column today, I'm having second thoughts. I want a Reagan Republican running for president, not a Bush/Rockefeller Republican.
Regardless of his eloquency, I think that George Allen may be the man.
It's so sad that Ron Reagan Jr fell so far from the Reagan Oak Tree.
I greatly admire Katherine Harris for her steeled determination to stay in this race despite the hell that DC Republicans have given her and the personal tragedy that she's had to endure in losing her father.
You could tell how much she loved her father in the flash of emotion that came over her face not when she talked directly about her father the first time in the prepared remarks she'd made, but when it came up later in the interview. Many people have said that it's nothing but naked ambition that is fueling Katherine, but I think it's more than that.
Surely anyone running for the U.S. Senate has got to be ambitious, but I really think that she loves her state, she loves this nation, and she wants to be actively involved in pointing us in the right direction. Right now, Florida is represented by an atrociously liberal senator, and she knows what kind of harm that does to the state and nation that she loves.
This is not going to be a runaway election in either direction - and I think that when the people of Florida are in the voting booth and ask themselves who they really want to be their Senator...I think they're going to say they want Katherine Harris.
I'm with you Katherine! You're in this race, and you ARE going to win! :-)
It's happened before. For all we know Scheuer may be a prophet, afterall, and simply made to be the fool by effective intelligence work. There's really no way for any of us to know one way or the other.
If you're going to hang around with jihadi fruitcakes ALWAYS hide your tracks. Something like Anonymizer(pay) or Anonymouse(free) or just google "web proxies" and use any random one you like. You can always put them in bookmarks for convenience like this one which is to a hacker who targets jihadi web sites.
Better safe than, well, decapitated.
I called it here first.
EU still appears ready to fund PA, even after Hamas takes over
In Strasbourg, Ferrero-Waldner said the EU would "leave the door open" to the possibility of continued financing to the Palestinian Authority, but reiterated that any long-term EU aid would depend on how the Hamas-led government would act. She urged Abbas to put pressure on Hamas to "seek peace by peaceful means."
"He is making every effort to achieve this, but we are not yet there. But we think the president has another two weeks to continue the negotiations," she said.
Earlier, a senior European Parliament member said he believed the EU may be able to continue with direct aid to the Palestinians even after Hamas forms a government.
Hans-Gert Poettering, chairman of the conservative European People's Party, the biggest group in the EU assembly, said any future EU aid would be conditional on Hamas' changing its course and recognizing the right of Israel to exist.
There are times when I could live without being right, and this is one of them. Sigh...
The date March 18th...
When are the big St Pats parades in NY and Chicago?

Dick Morris writes that Romney cannot be nominated, that Allen could --but would be beaten bad by Hillary...
I thought Condi was the only one who could beat Hillary? Wasn't that the thesis of his last book?
For those who still believe that peace has a chance with regard to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, what do you say to this.
The Hamas-run web site promoting suicide terrorism to children has been updated with a new illustrated story glorifying a young girl's suicide attack on the "Zionists".
The story, entitled "A Palestinian Girl's Heroism," describes how the young girl calmly progresses, step by step, though the planning and execution of the terror attack, in which she dies. In death she is said to be "smiling, lying on the grass, because she died as a Shahida, martyr for Allah, for Palestine."

But at least they can find the nail clippers.
Trey and Matt have responded in their own peculiar way to the whole weird mess:
While the "South Park" creators didn't directly comment on Comedy Central's decision to pull the episode, they issued an unusual statement to Daily Variety indicating the battle is not over."So, Scientology, you may have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for earth has just begun! Temporarily anozinizing our episode will NOT stop us from keeping Thetans forever trapped in your pitiful man-bodies. Curses and drat! You have obstructed us for now, but your feeble bid to save humanity will fail! Hail Xenu!!!"
The duo signed the statement "Trey Parker and Matt Stone, servants of the dark lord Xenu."

On Mar 12th, 2006 the RedState directors gave their official Position on Katherine Harris, Please Drop Out.
The headline read: "It is time for Katherine Harris to drop out." At the time I agreed with their assessment. Sighting the personal tragedy of loosing her father and what I perceived as not enough money to compete as my reasons.
But then last night on Hannity & Colmes Katherine Harris announced she was staying in the race, putting 10 million dollars into the campaign, and was going to win!
I believe she has a good shot with help from the party. Comparing voting records side by side, she kills her opponent on the issues.
I realize there most likely hasn't been enough time to come to a consensus but with a revitalized campaign and re-starting on equal footing financially.
My question to the directors (and anyone else who would like to chime in) is: In light of this will you be re-evaluating your earlier position?
