Open thread.
Also, let this serve as summary notice to all of our new visitors who have been enticed to check out the site because of the furor over Ben's new gig, that if your idea of intelligent commentary is this or this, you'd do yourself (and us) better just to read. RedState is not friendly ground for bizarre conspiracy theories or Pointy Sticks™, and the Life is Not Fair™ principle is in effect.
If you find yourself mysteriously unable to post, you may refer back to this point for your explanation. Cheers.

That there have been bigger days of advancement for conservatives in the past than getting a blog for a conservative at the WaPo. That being said, I'm quite happy to see it happen and (for that matter) to conclude this post without saying anything bizzare or conspiritorial, lest Leon ban this Big East backer.
... when I click my shortcut to Red America I get a Bandwidth Limit Exceeded notice? Did someone decide Ben was getting too verbose?
The Liberal Blogs are awash with gloating about a discredited study that attempts to show that whiny children become Conservatives and Whiny Liberals acting like children because someone else gets to talk.
Sometimes they make it too easy.
And the alien living in hangar 18 at Dayton AFB told me some real juicy tidbits today.

NEW YORK -- Invoking Biblical themes, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton joined immigration advocates Wednesday to vow and block legislation seeking to criminalize undocumented immigrants.-Newsday.com
How many things can you find wrong in this story?
It seems like there is an avalanche of them descending on Redstate. Also, I am sure I've seen it somewhere before but how did moby come to mean that?
Also I know what people mean when they say RINO but what does it stand for?
Republican in Name Only.
Moby called for stealth attacks on blogs by pretending to become part of the community, then unleashing the normal Talking Points. Hence the name.
I can't believe I didn't figure out the RINO one. :)
(1) Duke v. (4) LSU
(13) Bradley v. (1) Memphis
(6) West Virginia v. (2) Texas
(3) Gonzaga v. (2) UCLA
About the only possibility of an "upset" I see here is Gonzaga (who should have been the #2 in the DC region) over UCLA. Not much of an upset there.
Previewing Friday...
(4) BC v. (1) Villanova
(7) G'Town v. (3) Florida
(11) George Mason v. (7) Wichita State
(1) Connecticut v. (5) Washington
Anything's possible there - though it's likely that UCONN (too deep) and NOVA (too fast) will advance. I wouldn't miss the G'Town/Florida game for anything.
Check out this message board at Good Morning America's website.
GMA asked its viewers if the media is doing a good job covering the Iraq War and boy are they getting an earful. Here's a taste:
--A coward of a president would have let the attack on 9-11 stand. Aren't we lucky to have a strong leader and great allies who are willing to stand up to tyranny and oppression so that we continue to have our freedom. Freedom to be diverse, to live our life as we choose, and freedom of speech, so that people like you can put voice to your uninformed comments and opinions. You can do this without the fear that you or a family member will be maimed, raped, tortured, or killed because you spoke ill of our leader.
Get informed and educated (and not by the media) and you'll have a much more accurate picture of what we're up against as Americans.--I agree....Its time we let the press know that American's are fed up with the way they report news....
--I've been waiting for this day! Finally, mainstream media is being challenged. Their lack of positive coverage is frustrating. Thankfully we have a determined and very positive president.
There are the usual lefties as well, but even GMA in its broadcast report on the results of the feedback admitted that the "overwhelming majority" of posters were unhappy with media coverage of the war.
The times they are a changin'.
I don't have the data available to crunch, but I don't think a 12 or 13 seed has ever beaten a 1 seed in the regional semis. In all the other games I'd give the lower seed probably at least a 20 percent chance of winning.
"Invoking Biblical themes..."
technically OK, but why must the Dowager Empress "invoke" biblical themes? Is it in the AP Style Guide? Does the reporter think it adds luster to Hillary's halo?
"...Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton..."
OK, we all know her full title, Beth. "Senator Clinton" would have been sufficient, and you wouldn't have to abbreviate "senator".
"...joined immigration advocates..."
I'm an immigration advocate too...legal immigration, that is. Who are these folks and what do they advocate?
"...to vow and block legislation..."
What is this? I guess if that doesn't work, they can duck and cover it, drop and roll it, or block and tackle it.
"...seeking to criminalize undocumented immigrants..."
Hey, Beth...THEY'RE ALREADY CRIMINALS!
Sorry for the caps, but that last bit really frosted me. Thanks for the laugh, BooBooKitty.
...is actually a dog-eared chapter in the liberal activist "messaging" handbook. Anytime you hear or read the line, "I WAS a lifetime Republican..." or "I voted for Ronald Reagan and Bob Dole..." followed by "...but I can no longer support this party because of Bush's illegal war." you can be 99.9% certain that you have harpooned a Moby.

for that link to the ABC message board. I really enjoyed reading the comments living as I do in a fortress of liberal thinking. How refreshing - people who actually are pressing the media to, dare I say it, cover the war objectively. Will it happen? Who can say.... hopefully the advertisers for GMA will be paying attention to the message board and addressing the issue accordingly.
the terminology and the mannerisms of their masters. I don't doubt that the more intelligent ones can hide out for some time, but the right and rational way of thinking is just so unnatural to them that they can't hold out for long.
They are too used to the whole "ululululululu the rich, ululululu the warmongers, ululululu racists, ulululuu the theocrats, ulululu the bigots, ulululuu the homophobes, etc" that it's hard to put your brain back on for an intelligent discussion.
...the NBC model. When NBC wants to know if they are being fair and accurate in covering Iraq, they just ask their own reporters and news team.
Asking the viewers is just too...messy.
where the transporter accidentally caused Kirk, Uhuru, Scotty and McCoy to swap places with their evil counterparts from a parallel universe (where Spock had a beard)? At the end of the episode, after the four were returned to our universe by the bearded Spock, Kirk asked the real Spock how they were able to recognize the evil couterparts so quickly. Spock responded with something along the lines of, it is much easier for a rational person to impersonate a lunatic than it is for a lunatic to impersonate a rational person.
This is what I am reminded of every time a moby invades our space here.
They are up on Best Buy's site right now. Likely not for long.

gory
You can't tell, but I'm bouncing around in my chair in celebration.
...they all threw their pointy hats into the air.
to Illinois Republicans (Northern)-
Scott Ritter, the worthless disgrace, will be giving a lecture at Lake Forest College, 3/30/06 at 4:00, no charge.
Topic will be the entire Iraq situation, as he thinks he's an expert.
This should be a dandy!
...or bring a Whopper to distract him.
that episode, I fully concur. I wonder what they hope to achieve, infiltrating like that? It seems like some of them believe that the force of their convictions will sway us into converting :)
Some of their posts are half way passable, but then a sentence or two will just irreversibly wash everything else away.
on this morning's GMA from Baghdad. Although the report was fairly balanced and did stress the majority of respondents were dissatisfied with the media's Iraq coverage, here is how Harris ended his report (no transcript, paraphrasing):
While most people did say that they don't think the media is doing a good job reporting on the war, I have to say that when we do go out and speak with Iraqis, they emphasize the bad news. The lack of electricity, the lack of clean water, and definitely the the security situation. Already today in Iraq, Charlie, 5 more bombings.
Translation: Although most Americans are unhappy with our coverage, they don't know what they are talking about.
Here's the link to the page with Harris' video report. Link.
BTW, I brought the message board to the attention of National Review Online's Media Blog as well, so here's hoping ABC gets a lot more negative responses. That and boycotting mainstream media are the only ways to turn this around.
Is it took how many decades for this to happen? and all that time the MSM claimed they were not biased.
Dont you get it yet? they think they are sooo much more intelligent and moral than us they belive that through the power of their brilliant reason and tactical superiority they can save a few of us and bring us over to the light!!!
But there is a POSSIBILITY that UT could be the first ever University to have a championship at the same time in Baseball, Football, and Basketball!
I have to say that when we do go out and speak with Iraqis, they emphasize the bad news.
What difference does it make what the Iraqis are emphasizing, the media is supposed to objectively report what's going on, not people's opinions?
When the U.S. military emphasizes the good news, do they report that, or are they skeptical and do their utmost to find out what's really going on?
The media seems to have forgotten the Hole Rule: when you're in a hole, don't keep on digging, you'll end up even deeper in it. And I for one don't mind it a bit.
No, not basketball, sorry. The number one MN Gophers were beat by Holy Cross. My bracket was ruined in the first game (I'd image that ruined just about everyone's). MN didn't even appear to try. They didn't show up to play. It should have been a walk, and it seems they were convinced of that themselves.
As the announcer put it, it just may be the biggest upset in college hockey history.

I would like to reiterate that I believe that allowing a conservative to speak (even via blog) at the Washington Post is a major event that will not go unnoticed among the liberal establishment, and rightfully so. I believe this marks an end to the liberal (only) control of the press and opens up news opinion to both sides of the isle. Those who allow discourse will survive, those that don't will be subjected to a minimal audience.
This event may well become a historical event (Remember this day)! The tsunami makes news but the rising tide makes waves...
