I think both opposing sides tend to give too much credit to both these guys.  They are good boogeymen for fundraisers though.

Before I get started. Let me say I DO NOT agree that immigrants "cost American jobs" or are a "net negative" given the strains they put on our health, welfare, and school systems.

But we need (big) reform. I would love people like Michelle Marquez to become American citizens. Her taunters should only be allowed to come here to work for a limited time and be forced to return home. WE NEED A WALL so that only legal guest workers can come in.  

I would add a simple requirement. To become an American citizen you must be fluent in English. If someone is not fluent in English, they must carry a green card with them. Failure to show  green card would subject violator to heavy fine and possible return to home country( for multiple violations). Employers (including day labor hires)would be required to show green card to employer under stiff penalty of law.

My extended family, anyway.

I found out today that the mother of a good friend was killed, and the father seriously injured, in an auto accident.  The accident was caused by an illegal immigrant Mexican, who was driving drunk, and was unlicensed.

As reported to me, the father is in the hospital, but the man who caused the accident was unharmed and is walking free.

Doesn't make all illegal immigrants bad people, but it is an example of one family nearly wiped out because of the lack of border security.

The Democratic base takes Michael Moore seriously and stands by his blatherings to the end.

The Religious Right understands that Pat suffers from moments of senility and is frequently quoted out of context.  The Right are typically the first to censure Pat.  Nobody on the Right takes anything Pat has to offer on politics seriously.

I'm informed the other driver was killed as well.

The Democratic base(AKA the rank and file) take Michael Moore seriously but none of the religous fundamentalists take Pat Robertson seriously.  

I can't even tell you the last time a Democrat I know has even REFERRED to Michael Moore, much less supported his comments.  He, much like Robertson, is moderately popular with the hard core activists but NOT with the base.

Every time I wander over there I find the comments dazzling.

I occassionally post at.  It is full of flaming liberals, and most of them adore Michael Moore.  They wouldn't want to vote him into office, but most of them seem to believe that Michael Moore tells no lies as well.

Maybe you just hand out with a less rabid group of democrats.

That said, I think the media gives far more weight to the crackpot things Pat Robertson says than those on the right do.  

There is a big danger in trying to paint the rank and file of EITHER party with the actions of a blog.  The more radical people tend to be the most vocal.  The more politically motivated tend to be the people who post in general.  

I could go dig up Conservative boards that would scare the bejeebus out of most rank and file Republicans.  

I live in the NYC area.  Perhaps this isn't San Fran or Boston but it is a pretty darn Liberal place.  Sure there are some kooks but the majority of people aren't.

But in Blair County, PA, Michael Moore is effectively a God.  So mnay of these people worship him it's not funny.

I mean its not like she had secret military knowledge or troop movements she needed to protect by staying mum. She told them what they wanted to hear to protect herself and that is what she should have done.

Besides, is this not the same Dem talking points we hear nightly on the MSM? That my as well been an interview with Dean, and these fools aren't facing the threat of getting their heads lopped off.  

but mom boards are much closer than blogs, because the mom board is more about moms than being liberal or conservative, there just happen to be a lot of liberals on the board.

here in Fort Worth, TX we woke to hear on the news -

FORT WORTH -- An illegal immigrant in federal custody since his arrest early this month on traffic warrants was arrested Thursday in connection with a string of rapes and other sexual attacks dating back to December 2004, police said.

His hands and legs shackled, Jose Carrillo, 30, was transported from federal custody Thursday afternoon and arrested by Fort Worth police on warrants in two of the Fort Worth rapes. Police say DNA evidence linked Carrillo to the two attacks, plus a rape in Arlington. When asked by reporters if he committed the offenses, Carrillo said no, adding that he has a wife and a baby on the way.

but the wider world audience as well.  Most people in New Zealand actually believe what michael moore says!  They believe it unquestioningly.  It's really scary.

If this guy could be tried and convicted on the harm he's singly-handedly done to America's image worldwide, then surely he would spend time in gitmo, lots of it.

Pat has always struck me as something like crazy old uncle Charlie. Everyone knows he's nuts, but he's a lovable old coot and as long as we don't let him out of the house without a keeper things are OK. Its just that every now and then he wanders off down the road and starts talking to people in the town square. sooner or later the sheriff calls us to come and pick him up before he hurts himself.
