For Easter Sunday, April 16, 2006

Meet the Press (NBC): Host Tim Russert has another panel, this one on religion (and babble). His guests will be Sister Joan Chittister, Rabbi Michael Lerner, Prof. Seyyed Hossein Nasr, Rev. Richard John Neuhaus, Pastor Joel Osteen, and Russert's own spiritual advisor (it seems), Newsweek magazine's Jon Meacham. Meacham will provide the babble and the spiritual je ne sais quoi. (And I really don't know what!)

FOX News Sunday (FNS): Host Chris Wallace will chat with Senators Mitch McConnell and Chris Dodd about Iran and Newt Gingrich about how badly he thinks the GOP needs him.

Face the Nation (CBS): Host Bob Schieffer hosts New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson and Virginia Senator George Allen.

This Week (ABC): Host George Stephanopoulos will talk to retired General Richard Myers about Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and six lonely generals. Then he'll talk to Dick Lugar and Evan Bayh, at which time Bayh will again appear very Presidential for the viewers in Indiana. (I think Steph might be in double figures now.)

Late Edition (CNN): Host Wolf Blitzer has Iraq's ambassador to the United States, Samir Sumaidaie. He'll also talk to Diane Feinstein, Duncan Hunter, Hank Kissinger, and the Reverend Falwell.

-----

Tomorrow is Easter and I will miss the shows, but as always, let us know what you saw. In case you weren't aware, Bill Richardson is the smartest energy secretary we've every had the most brilliant U.N. ambassador since Moynihan. (This is what we're told.) If you see Fr. Neuhaus on MTP, don't take the risks involved with quoting him. I might record Steph's show just to see General Myers.

Have a joyous Easter, even if you do not celebrate it. If you do, though, you know what I mean when I say, "joyous."

With respect to your "joyous" comment, I know what you mean.  Really knowing the simple fact of the Resurrection has made every day since Sept 15, 1978 a joyous day for me.  Even those that appeared to be filled with sadness or problems or grief.  The joy of the Resurrection overcomes it all.

May your life continue to be filled with joy.

Osteen is a theological hack with no training and zero-zilch-nada understanding of Biblical Christianity.  What a poor representative of the Christian faith to have.  I mean, everybody's entitled liberty of conscience--believe whatever the heck you want.  But if a guy's gonna be a "Christian" pastor, he ought to at least think you need Jesus to go to heaven.  IMHO.

is the seminal event in history.  No event in human history comes close.  The Spirit revealed the truth of the resurrection to me when I was 16 (12 years ago now), and I am so thankful.  Happy Resurrection Sunday to all.

The Left wants tomato cans in the boxing vernacular--someone they can easily knock down.  They would never put  someone like Ravi Zacharias or Lee Strobel or heaven forbid Chuck Colson on to have an informed discussion about the Faith.

Osteen is not the same calibre as the guys above.  His strength is in reaching out to people who have not been able to fit in to the traditional church.  He is earnest if not erudite.

Muslim, I too, understand the joys that can come from accepting Jesus and his teachings.  The Quran holds that all Muslims are to accept into their hearts the teachings of all of the prophets of Allah, this, of course, includes teachings of Jesus, known as Injeel.  My life has become more joyous since I started to accept Jesus' teachings.

So, despite the enmity that sometimes arises betweeen Islam and Chrisitianity, I wish everyone a Happy Easter.

It doesn't seem natural for a Muslim to celebrate Easter since the Koran states that Christ didn't really die on the cross, and was therefore never resurrected....

Easter, tommorrow I will celebrate the teachings of Jesus, peace be on him.  But, since both Muslims and Chrisitans love and adore Jesus, I wish all Christians well with their Easter celebrations tomorrow.  You are right that Muslims do not believe that Jesus, peace be on him, died on the cross. Rather he ascended directly into Heaven.  Jesus, peace be on him, will return to earth once again, however, at the end of days.

I view Easter, however, as a time to remember the teachings of Jesus, peace be on him.  So. while I will not be taking part in the celebration of his resurrection, I will honor his teachings of charity, tolerance, and kindness.

Are that, I do not know if there is any real divinity in the person of Jesus of Nazareth. but his teachings were certainly of great importance. Love your neighbor, but not only that, Love your enemy.

This is the hardest of doctrines to follow.

I do not know if there is a life after death, I am full of doubts, But I have hope, that if God is merciful, then I have a chance.
