Blunt talk vs. Bush speak

The majority leader race from earlier this year predates my time as a commenter on RedState, and I definitely remember how that went down.
But I've got to say, after Bush's pathetic have-it-both-ways address, Roy Blunt definitely hit the right mark with his statement last night:
"While I appreciate the president's willingness to tackle big problems, I have real concerns about moving forward with a guest worker program or a plan to address those currently in the United States illegally until we have adequately addressed our serious border security problems."
Dead on. The thing we have to make sure of first and before we can talk about anything else is making sure no one gets in who shouldn't be here. Other MOCs made similar statements, but this is exactly the right tone, and we need to hear more of it. (And we REALLY need to hear some of that from the Senate, but I'm not holding my breath).
From one RedStater to Roy Blunt, we're definitely behind you on immigration. Way to show what a real conservative thinks on this issue. Please keep at it.
The idea that any of these idiots should have figured out something late last year is a joke. Border security should have been a top priority in the '80's. Or the '90's. Or 2000.
I could care less about any politician blathering about how important this is. Stop the debate, get off television, stop all commentary on the subject and DO SOMETHING.
And by the way, what ever ends up "getting done" will be a joke. There will be no security. There will be no "earned citizenship". There will be no guest worker program. At the end of the day, Mexicans will continue to flow unabated into the US and the government will do nothing to stop them.

I did see Blunt's statement getting a lot of play in papers this morning, and it made me think about Kowalski's diary from a couple weeks ago about the efforts of the conservative blogosphere in the majority leaders race and if they paid off:

We weren't thinking much about immigration back then, but Blunt has taken such a strong stand against illegal immigration it makes you wonder about what if we had been able to anticipate that illegal immigration would become THE issue of the spring.
