Looks like al-Zarqawi's Al Qaeda in Iraq organization has taken it on the chin since the death of its leader:
American and Iraqi forces have carried out 452 raids since last week's killing of terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and 104 insurgents were killed during those actions, the U.S. military said Thursday.
Zarqawi's death may not mark the end of the insurgency, or necessarily even the beginning of the end, but it may well spell the end of Al Qaeda in Iraq and, more generally, the foreign-terrorist component of the insurgency. And the more the insurgency is limited to domestic Iraqi elements, the sooner the Iraqi government and military will be able to take over the battle against them. And, of course, this is bad news for Al Qaeda worldwide, as its only visibly active operating subsidiary has lost its CEO and is bleeding manpower and resources at a rapid rate.

But but but...we have no strategy for victory. We have no leadership. In fact I noticed in a lefty echo chamber of a conversation that we have already lost the war. That nothing is left to do but to finish the American body count before we come home having accomplished nothing.

(read some of that thread - it is an amazing piece of delusion) So clearly we cannot be winning the war. The brave statesman, kerry even has his demand to leave the war now on the floor to save America by having America retreat post haste.
And Al Zarqawi was a creation of chimpymchalliburton, so the data onany computer is clearly a fabrication as well. The Iraqis are just puppets playing along. They have no real authority and their resistance to the freedom fighters is not widely supported. So says the great patriots of the left.
blahblahblah.
We are winning. We have been winning. We have had a patient strategy that has waited on Iraqis to finish getting a standing government and to collect the intel needed to wind this up.
We have had incredibly low casualties given the nature of what we have dealt with. We have been particularly respectful of the Iraqi people.
We were never close to defeat, except in the minds of the lefties who cower in fear after voting for a war that was described as tough and challenging.
The democrat party has met the challenge of our generation by declaring our defeat and demanding retreat.
being killed or captured would really add to the idea of Al Qaeda being on the outs.
I keep hoping some Special Forces geek will get a shot at him one of these days.
...this appears to be the biggest jewel.
In reading it, you see how wobbly Al Qaeda is in Iraq, despite the sky is falling hysteria from the MSM and the Left.
Re: the treasure trove, when Iraqi National Security Adviser Mouwafak al-Rubaie was asked how he could be sure the information was authentic, al-Rubaie said "there is nothing more authentic than finding a thumbdrive in his (ZARQAWI'S) pocket."
Also released this morning was a report that captured and translated info from Al Qaida in Iraq that gave locations and names for several cells and even more weapons caches.
But it looks like al quaeda is trying to relocate to somalia. If they do well in chaotic disorganized environments this may be the place for them.
This document found in the rubble of Zarqawi's "not-so-safe" house is telling, troubling, and in my opinion should be enough unto itself to unite America's political factions in getting the job done.

But then... that would require common sense and
righteous honor amongst the adolescent-minded
democrats and RINO moderates. I am surprised to
not find a few American Liberals named as
possible assets to be exploited.
.
.
The dems should be very concerned, but they are blinded by their bigotry.
Please tell me to my face that I lack common sense and/or righteous honor when it comes to the GWOT.
Is that a physical threat of violence?
Please be very clear.
.
It's neither physical nor a threat. But if it makes you feel better, I'll rephrase.
Hi. I'm a RiNO. Say to me, specifically, that I lack common sense and/or righteous honor when it comes to the GWOT.
Better?
and defeat must be snatched from the jaws of victory. I owe that one to National Review and the Cuban missle crisis.
It does seem that the people who Support Our Troops have picked up the pace on the retreat and defeat theme so dear to their black hearts. It would sicken them for America not to lose, for the sacrifices of our men not to have been in vain, for the Iraqui government not to fail, for the country not to sink into mass bloodshed and civil war.
Not that I'm questioning their patriotism or implying that they are abnormal thanatos driven necrophilliacs.
...we had better begin preparations for our immediate withdrawal from Somalia. John F. Kerry (D-Davos) has a better plan to deal with these naughty little lawbreakers.
From the Zarqawi document:
"It is not known whether American is serious in its animosity towards Iraq, because of the big support Iran is offering to America in its war in Afghanistan and in Iraq."
Somehow, listening to Ahmedinejad recently, he doesn't seem to be too helpful (?) to America's war efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Zarqawi was even crazier than we might have thought. But this does illustrate his "divide and conquer" theory--try to foment tensions between the Shia and the Americans through fear of Iran, in order to help the Sunni retake Iraq.
This is a huge find--if we know the enemy's strategy, in will definitely help our military planners with a counter-strategy.
Specifically, my comment was directed toward Congressional Democrats
and Wishy-Washy Republican Senators in particular, who
cannot decide who is the greater threat to American troops.
Is it...
- the Saddam loyalist insurgency?
- the Zargawi led terrorists?
- the President, Don Rumsfeld, Condi Rice,
and the legion of Military brass who simply are
"too stupid" to plan and conduct this war,
which we shouldn't be in in the first place?
I am of the opinion that #3 above is ridiculous, whereas, RiNOs such as Chuck Hagel
have agonized over choice #3 since we lost the 1st solider in combat.
If you are proud to be a RiNO, and don't include choice #3 in your perspective on
the GWOT then I suppose I owe you a pardon me.
.
As they're currently busy scraping examples of #2 off of various Iraqi walls, ceilings and floors. I share your opinion of the ridiculousness of #3; and I'm not fond of Hagel myself.
I'm not 'proud' of being a RiNO, but will cheerfully cop to being a moderate/liberal Republican, which is what I took your term to mean. Also one not up to even my usual low standards in felicity of style: I should have been a bit less obscure and in-your-face in my original response, so my apologies.
Moe
Must be my switch to diet soda. I hate diet soda.
Man, I haven't been called a geek since elementary school... but I do hope one of our doorkickers gets a shot...
Someone needs to do a diary on the Home page discussing the Zarqawi document where he admits things are "bleak" and that the US is winning.
EVERY Republican should have a copy of that and jam it down Pelosi's throat..
You should write the diary and let it get recommended and or promoted to the front page.
I shall look forward to reading it.
from the previously cited article, and the insurgents have lost 863 fighters in less than a week, thanks to the info that the American AND IRAQI troops got from Zarqawi. How much longer can this go on before the insurgents throw in the towel?
Finding and killing Zarqawi was a great victory, but the information he (involuntarily) gave us is probably the turning point in the war. Go get 'em, guys!
President Bush and every Republican in Congress should be all over the MSM, saying that we're winning in Iraq big time!

under new management. Over at CentCom they have a section called "What the extremists are saying" [brought to us by the FISA-Free US Military listeners-in-on folks. They have named their new top target...heh...
Congratulations to Muhajir for getting the new t-shirt with the big red Bulls-Eye printed on both sides...
