Martin Frost Should Be Smacked

Former Representative Martin Frost on Fox News just said that Republicans "used to send out pictures of black members of congress saying look who will be a committee chair if the Democrats get elected." He then said that the use of dead soldiers to raise money was much less disgusting than that.

Shame on Martin Frost. Shame on the Democrats.

the wrong question? Don't you think it is incumbent upon the man making this outlandish claim to show proof?

Don't get angry, cause I am truly asking, but: Is this untrue?  Is there any evidence that Frost is not talking out his behind?  I've never heard of anything like this...

The main complaint about a "black congressman being a committee chair" has typically revolved around John Conyers, although in the past some would think of former Black Panther Bobby Rush in that regard.  And, to be charitable to the distinguished representative from Michigan, I'm going to paraphrase the Dixie Chicks by saying I'm ashamed that Conyers is from my state.  To put it more bluntly, Conyers is a lunatic, exploiting political machinery and the Democratic Party's near monopoly on the black vote to advance radical leftist views.  I'd love to see how he would fare in a district that actually cared what he was up to.

Let's not discuss their records... or how Conyers has been openly calling for impeachment.

Frost should be 'smacked.' He is seriously truth-challenged.

From my days on the Hill during the '96 election (when everyone also panicked and thought Rs were going to lose control of Congress), Republicans DID send around a picture of "look who will be chairman."  If I recall correctly it was a montage of the more liberal potential chairman, which, yes, included Rangel and Conyers (among others).  So yes, strictly speaking, Republicans did pass around pics of black reps, saying "look who will be chairman."  They just also sent around pics of white reps as well . . .

Again, though, this is just my recollection, and there might be ads that I don't remember.

Was not to defend him in any way.  He is certainly being dishonest.  I'm just trying to recall what basis there possibly could be for his assertion -- I've found that in DC people rarely outright make things up, inasmuch as they twist things with factual basis beyond recognition.  I recall -- and again, this was 10 years now -- that the same yelps of racism were raised back then in response to the GOP "look who would be in charge" campaign.

I'm pretty sure I remember what you are talking about. It is the difference between a grotesque distortion and an outright lie. Small but significant.

what Frost is saying. In English, he's saying that they singled out black committee chairmen.

I suspect you are right about the source but that doesn't make him a whit less deceptive.

Martin continues his march toward irrelevancy.  And I am proud to say that I helped Pete Sessions start him on that path.  Now if Pete would only emulate Jeb Hensarling a little more!
