Nifong

By Jeff Emanuel

It's official: the Attorney General of North Carolina has dropped all charges against the three Duke lacrosse players, saying that, having reviewed the evidence, "We believe they are innocent."

He absolutely took DA Mike Nifong behind the woodshed, by title if not by name, and let him have it over his "tragic rush to accuse" and his "pushing forward unchecked," using the "weight of the state" to proceed with a case which had "such inconsistencies" that it was impossible to tell anything except that the accuser was clearly completely unreliable and untrustworthy.

In response to the first quesiton, the AG confirmed that Mr. Nifong is facing ethics charges with the state bar - and that he owes the families a very "sincere apology."

Here's a good point by Rush: if the Rutgers basketball players are going to be, in their own words, "scarred for life" bu Don Imus's comments, then how scarred will these three young men be from being falsely accused - and convicted in the court of public opinion - of rape? And, will the media care one bit?

By Jeff Emanuel

Over a year after evolving accusations and prosecutorial campaigning first landed them in court on rape charges, the Attorney General of the state of North Carolina has announced that all charges will be dropped against the three Duke lacrosse players who lost their sport, their college enrollment, their reputations, and a year of their lives to the combination of a hysterical stripper and a prosecutor whose electoral eyes were bigger than the truth's stomach.

The immortal words of Ray Donovan are as handy now as ever. I'd just like to wish these three kids the best of luck in the future.
