tax reform

By Pejman Yousefzadeh
It is worth reflecting on and discussing the desperate need for fundamental tax reform every day, but on April 15th, we should take special note of the antediluvian nature of our tax system. I will take this opportunity to once again bring the splendid example of Estonia and its flat tax system to the attention of readers once again. Let's hope that Mart Laar's pessimism concerning America's ability to institute a flat tax system is unfounded. It's difficult to think of many other policy changes which, if implemented, will help raise revenue and economic growth so quickly and so comprehensively.
Relatedly, there is this. Be sure to check out the video:

Posted at 6:48am on Mar. 24, 2008 MI MORNING UPDATE: Dems predict budget shortfall again, Hoogendyk petitions for ballot, Tax reforms anyone can do

MORNING UPDATE:
I have received many inquiries about how to add Michigan to California, Arizona and Nevada, which all have enacted constitutional amendments requiring a two-thirds vote of both houses of the legislature to raise taxes. This requires a petition drive and ballot initiative. This may be the only way, that will stop what has happened to us from happening again. The Democrats are swirling around “ways” to solve the “next” shortfall…unbelievable.

MORNING UPDATE:
Granholm’s/Democrat’s Taxpayer Fraud gets worse. The state announces a $350 million surplus, yet the latest figures show that the Governor underfunded pension commitments, education funding and borrowed funds from the tobacco settlement…just pushing off more hard decisions down the line.
Why the shell game???
Michigan needs leadership and responsible reforms as the way we spend tax payer’s dollars. Now is the time for a bi-partisan approach to address the “structural reforms” needed to put Michigan back on the right track.

Posted at 9:41am on Dec. 1, 2007 MI Morning Update: Deal reached on repealing MI Dem's Service Tax
By saul anuzis

MORNING UPDATE:
The legislature and Governor have apparently reached a deal on the repeal of the sales tax on services. Reportedly, it is a 21.9 percent surcharge on the Michigan Business Tax capped at $6 million with a 2015 sunset. About $100 million will be drained from the MBT's rainy day fund, according to sources.
Senate Republicans negotiated a 42% decrease from what the House Democrats passed…and got a net cut of $100 million on job providers…we’ll see.

MORNING UPDATE:
The cause of Freedom and our cause for conservative values is a marathon…we need to get up every morning and do our part…whatever it is! Freedom was the original idea and Freedom isn’t free.
Republicans will AGAIN try to push for real reforms and address the structural spending problems Michigan has. The Governor and majority House Democrats have refused to address ANY major structural reforms… which has the Democrats talking about additional tax increases, raising the sales tax rate, tax shifts…more revenues!
