Lincoln Chafee has always been an intellectual lightweight and moral coward. Since losing in 2006, Chafee has been on a mission to bone up his "traitor" and "backstabber" cred. After receiving millions of dollars of party money to help him in both his primary bid against a more conservative Republican and against his Democratic opponent, he decided to repay the Republican party by publicly leaving it, thus raising the collective IQ of both Republicans and "Independents."

The latest episode in Chafee craven stupidity comes in his decision to endorse Barack Obama on the basis of Obama's... well, don't expect specifics from people on why Obama would be a good President. He just would, darn it! In any event, Chafee's endorsement in this race would be as irrelevant to me as Billy Zane's endorsement in this race, except for this graf from the AP piece:

In an odd bit of timing, Chafee made the announcement the same day Republican front-runner Sen. John McCain planned his first campaign trip to Rhode Island. McCain's last visit here was to campaign and raise money for Chafee during his failed re-election bid.

"That's just the way the system works," Chafee said when asked about McCain's visit. "I'm sure Senator McCain will understand."

During that race, Obama came to Rhode Island twice for Whitehouse, who has endorsed Clinton.
